Latvia Entry Requirements for US Travellers

Informational only — not insurance, financial, or medical advice. Coverage, exclusions, and limits vary by policy and insurer — read the full policy terms before buying. Entry rules can change; verify entry/visa rules and travel advisories on travel.state.gov (and passport-validity / entry requirements with the destination’s embassy) before you travel. Vaccination notes are generic CDC framing, not medical advice — check the CDC destination page and a clinician. Advisory level is as of 2026-06-12 and changes with events — verify the current level on travel.state.gov.

US citizens do not require a visa to enter Latvia for tourism or business stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period, as Latvia is part of the Schengen Area. The US State Department rates Latvia at advisory level 1 (exercise normal precautions), indicating a relatively low security risk. Ensure your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area and was issued within the past ten years; these are standard Schengen requirements. Verify current passport rules on travel.state.gov before departure.

Proof of onward or return travel is commonly requested at check-in or at the border; confirm requirements with your airline and check the embassy page. No yellow fever vaccination is required for entry, and malaria is not a risk in Latvia. The CDC recommends keeping routine US vaccinations up to date, such as MMR, Tdap, polio, influenza, and COVID-19, though specific recommendations may vary. Visit the CDC destination page and travel.state.gov for the most current guidance before your trip.
